Our assignments

One of the reading tasks this term was to read the  article "Should we stay or should we go" written by Michael Czajkowski and published in "The teacher" magazine. There was also a short test from the content and vocabulary, and during the classes we had a discussion in which the students were given the voting cards and were supposed to ...vote:) If we could decide - the UK would for surely stay in EU!

One of the writing tasks for article writing this term was an assignment on "The ordinary Superhero", in which students from our group were encouraged to write about their role models. Here are the results:

Dear Editor,
I am writing to you to express my opinion about the topic of the article your magazine published last month. The author has presented his worries about the fact that the number of young people who are physically active is getting smaller. I am also terrified about this situation but I found possible reasons for that.
Firstly, technology. People, but especially youth, spend so much time on watching TV or in front of the computer screen. It is a new kind of entertainment and the way of spending free time. Sometimes teens do not feel the need to leave their four walls because they have virtual reality and this is enough for them. They can "meet" with friends online, study or even buy clothes and food. All of these make people lazy and they start avoiding simple physical activities.
Secondly, we live in a rush and have a little time to focus on our health. Some of us have sedentary lifestyle which makes us feel even more tired than exercising and after work we have energy for anything more.
We can easily change that. For example we can make it a routine, everyday wake up thirty minutes earlier and go for a walk. Small step, but we can improve our health in a few weeks.
Summarizing, in my opinion people are not interested in physical activities because they are surrounded by new technology or they have no time to worry about that. But if they try to change it, they will succeed.
Thank you for your attention.
Yours faithfully,

Joanna Ochlast

Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my opinion on an article that appeared in the latest issue of your magazine. I stumbled upon it whilst waiting for my doctor a few days ago. The article about dropping rate of physical activity amongst youth really got my attention. It came to my realisation that we share a very similar point of view.
Laziness seems to be a plague of twenty first century in developed countries, we simplify everything to live the most comfortable life as possible, we lead a sedentary lifestyle and we take it to the extreme by limiting our physical activity as much as possible. I think, just as you do, that the impossible rush we live in is hugely a reason for that. Why take a walk to school or to work when we have cars, buses, trams and trains, and it takes much less of our precious time. Later on the day we get home exhausted and crave a filling meal and some rest. This lack of activity and amount of calories we intake daily with processed foods may  lead to obesity.
The solution for growing despise for physical activity is so simple yet so complicated. An answer to most problems is education. Although, not everyone is willing to learn. Often despite acknowledging the health impacts that low physical activity has on body people tend to ignore them, not being ready or interested in leaving their comfortable way of living.
I am extremely pleased to know more people are passionate about this matter. And in addition take a reasonable stand against this horrid situation that seems to be only getting worse. However, I am staying positive in my wishes for a better change.
Thank you very much  for your attention.

Yours faithfully, XYZ

Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my opinion about the article, which appeared in your newspaper last Monday. It was about young people and their smaller physical activity. I want to suggest some reasons and solutions to this problem.

Firstly, I think, that teenagers do not exercise enough because they have not got much free time. Young people have a lot to do, they have many school and house duties. They also return home very tired, so have not got energy and motivation for physical activity.

Secondly, I claim to that young people do not many exercises because they have many interesting options to spend free time. Teenagers prefer computer games, shopping, watching TV. I want to suggest some possible solutions because I know that little or no physical activity leads to obesity and many problems with healthy. I maintain that the most important is changing parents’ behaviour in situation connected with physical activity of their children. They should motivate children to do exercises.

Moreover, I think that in school students should not be allowed to resign from P.E. I claim to that everyone has to attend P.E., so teachers cannot accept this, that students take part in lessons only when they want to.

I maintain that a ticket to a gym or a swimming pool should be free for young people. They often do not have money, so decide to stay at home.

All in all, I think that it is not difficult to encourage teenagers to do physical activity. Everyone knows that exercises are very important, people should go to the gym or in the swimming pool to be fit. I suggest a few solutions and I believe that someone will use one of these. Thank you very much for your attention

Yours faithfully XYZ
